PSP players won’t throw away this ‘PATAPON

Avid Filipino Playstation Portable (PSP) players have a new addiction: Its a game called “Patapon” — but don’t let the name fool you. Its a completely addicting game, especially as I have noticed my partner spending long hours playing it.

The new addiction is also spreading in the handheld-crazy US, according to media reports.

A USA Today report gives an overview on how the game is played and concludes that:

Patapon is an absolute must-have if you’re a PSP owner. Mesmerizing beats, alluring visuals and a palatable $19.99 price tag produce a powerful sound too tough to ignore.

Another report from Reuters also says that

“Patapon,” out this week for Sony’s PSP, is being hailed as one of the system’s best games. It is perhaps best characterized as a rhythm-based, side-scrolling real-time strategy game.

According to a GameSpot review:

Patapon’s ingenious combination of light real-time strategy and rhythm makes it a one-of-a-kind game that’s easy to recommend.

Other reviewers also gave “Patapon” high marks: UnderGroundOnline and GamaSutra.
