The statement is akin to the words then-Vice President George H. W. Bush (father of the current US president) spoke while visiting Ferdinand Marcos in Malacanang: “We love your adherence to democratic principles and to the democratic process” amid extrajudicial executions, abductions and rampant human rights violations by the ruthless dictatorship.
