At 95, grandma blogs to fame

In Spain, a grandson succeeds in getting his grandma, 95, to start blogging.

Now, Maria Amelia Lopez is a certified blogger with 60,000 regular readers and fans including Spain’s prime minister.

This Reuters report about this blogging grandma is, well, cute.

I’ve always asked old folks to start writing their memoirs for our sake and those who will come after us. Old folks have really cool and valuable experiences. Some of their more common experiences we already know, thanks to history books and our oral traditions. But each person, given his or her circumstance, has a unique story to tell. I am certain that a collage of these memoirs will present a more compelling history of our people during those times.

An example will be the dark years of martial law. Some tout it loudly is a time of discipline and peace while some pine for its diabolical return. Perhaps we will learn more if history books told us the truth about those years, about the evils of the Marcos dictatorship and why and entire generation of Filipinos rebelled, many taking up arms in legit rebellion, joining the armed revolution in the mountains, and a good many perishing in the subversive project. Those who survived and won over the dictatorship have plenty of stories to tell about the individual and collective acts of courage and commitment of our people. I long to hear and read their stories.

If only they have time to sit down, write and blog…
