An Associated Press report says Filipinos will join Americans, Canadians and Indians to be the first to experience a new Yahoo! Mail enhancement that will make it easier to send email, IM and text messages from one single website and not resort to toggling several different ones.

Google’s Gmail may not be far behind. Gmail users can chat on GTalk (IM) from the Gmail page. The text messaging aspect may be next.

How email and IM will be connected to text messaging is dependent on the charges to be levied by Yahoo!, Google and telcos Smart, Globe and Sun Cellular. If the service is priced by more than P1.00 per message, methinks it will fail.
