Reports: Palm to introduce Treo 500

Infoworld reports on a leak allegedly pertaining to the new Palm smartphone to be launched Wednesday in Europe.

It said that the new Palm smartphone is to be called Treo 500 which will run on Windows Mobile 6.0 and have 3G capability. A source of WMExperts says it will have Bluetooth 2.0, and a two-megapixel camera.

Devices powered by Windows Mobile 6.0 cannot use a touchscreen.

If this is so, tomorrow’s news will be bad news for Palm OS loyalists, especially those rooting for Garnet’s successor. Garnet is the latest Palm OS version and is said to be slated for replacement by a Linux-based OS.
