DFA website is now powered by WordPress

The Department of Foreign Affairs has chucked its old website look in favor of a magazine-style theme powered by WordPress.

WordPress is a good content management system for such a site. It provides the DFA a quick and painless way keep its official website updated, user-friendly and dynamic.

The DFA’s MIS department, which oversees the site, can still make further improvements, including the formatting of text, the better use of the current theme, photo sizing and resizing, better categorization of entries, and a way to actively solicit comments and feedback. Perhaps they should rethink how the site is organized and find out which parts are most visited so emphasis should be given those most-visited sites. There may be areas in the site which are not needed but are given too much prominence.

What is really odd is that the DFA website does not have any form where Filipinos can write the department. This is especially important to OFWs all over the globe who need and deserve assistance from the government through the DFA.  Perhaps a form where users can choose their desired recipients (DFA offices in the Philippines, or any of the diplomatic posts abroad) can do the job. This should be separate from opening each and every content to comments, subject of course to reasonable and practical rules.

The migration to WordPress is really good move. What’s important now is to make full use of WordPress to come out with a better site, design and content.
