You thought you can only buy legit iPhone 3Gs from Apple’s partner carriers like Globe?

Think again, because Apple Hong Kong has started selling the wonder in its website.

According to the official Apple Hong Kong website,

iPhone 3G purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8 to complete activation.

The 8GB model costs HK$5,400 (P31,972 or US$694) while the 16GB model has a HK$6,200 (P36,709 or US$797). Really cheap compared to Globe’s “subsidized” prices of P37,599 and P43,799, respectively.

Media and techies are surprised: AP, AFP and Engadget.

In a related development, after the launch last week of Google’s first smartphone dubbed G1, reports say that Nokia will be unveiling its first touchscreen phone aimed also at fighting Apple’s iPhone.
