In an email and a new page on its website, Palm announced that the unlocked GSM version of the new Treo Pro is now available for pre-order.

Pre-order price is $549.

The Treo Pro is Palm’s latest smartphone offering that is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition. Full specs here.

The reviews are generally positive, with some hinting that the Treo Pro may herald Palm’s revival of its flagging smartphone/handheld business: News.com.au, CNet UK, USA Today, Engadget Mobile, CNet Reviews, Mobility Site, and TechCrunch, among many others.

As of now, no Philippine telco has sponsored the local introduction of the Treo Pro and even the Centro. That spells disaster to many Palm diehards who have to pay a handsome price for getting any of the two gadgets. No carrier subsidy, no big discount.
