Watch "Moral" and help Ka Nick Atienza

UP Professor Nick Atienza needs our help. He remains confined at the Philippine General Hospital since falling ill and comatose late December last year. The respirator has been removed (a cl;ear sign of improvement), but he has yet to wake up and resume his scholarly and activist work.

Ka Nick’s friends have organized a benefit screening of Pinoy film classic “Moral” on Jan. 25, 2007 at the UP Film Center. Three screenings are scheduled: 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Tickets are at P50 each. All proceeds go to Ka Nick’s medical expenses. A tribute program is set at 5:00 pm.

Ka Nick was secretary-general of the Kabataang Makabayan when the First Quarter Storm first bannered the call for national democracy against imperialism, bureaucrat capitalism and feudalism. He was captured, jailed and tortured by the minions of Ferdinand Marcos for fighting the dictatorship. In UP, he led the study of the Philippine revolutionary movement’s use and advocacy of the national language. He helped form the First Quarter Storm Movement of once-young activists who are still raring to march side by side with young ones.

He is a beloved teacher, comrade and inspiration to many.
